DAIMLERCHRYSLER has struck a deal with Volkswagen to use up to 120,000 VW diesel engines a year in Chryslers and Mitsubishis. From 2005, new models will benefit from VWs latest 2.0 four-cylinder turbo diesel injector engine - the 140 bhp unit used in Audi's A3 and the VW Touran. Earlier plans to use Mercedes' existing 2.2-litre four-cylinder common-rail were dumped due to a lack of production capacity and high costs, according to DaimlerChrysler officials.
