Finalmente presentata la Lexus IS nuova generazione. Dal design aggressivo e' la prima lexus ad avere un motore turbodiesel. Si tratta del nuovissimo 2.2 da 175cv in grado di fornire una coppia di 400Nm da 2000 a 4000 giri. Nuova anche l'unità a benzina V6 di 2.5, che beneficia dell'iniezione diretta e opizionalmente di un nuovo cambio automatico a sei rapporti.

The new generation Lexus IS makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, following the new GS as the second model to be created encompassing the Lexus new L-Finesse design principles.
The presentation of the all-new model also marks the arrival of Lexus’s first diesel engine, an all-aluminium, 2.2-litre four-cylinder unit that is the most powerful in its class with a maximum output of 175bhp. It also produces class-leading torque, with 400Nm developed between 2,000 and 2,400rpm.

The new engine meets Lexus’s exacting requirements in terms of power and refinement, offering exceptionally quiet and smooth operation with superb performance.

A new 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine with a stoichiometric direct injection system is also available for the new IS. This engine will be available with a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential paddle-shift control.

Superior body control, cornering grip and straight-line stability are hallmarks of the new IS, set to continue to be one of the best-handling sports saloons in its segment. It will feature class-leading safety equipment, including Lexus’s radar-controlled Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Intelligent Adaptive Front Lighting System
(I-AFS). Ten airbags will be fitted as standard, including a first-in-segment double knee airbag. Performance, traction control and vehicle stability will be further enhanced by Lexus’s Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management System (VDIM).

The new generation IS will go on sale in Europe at the end of 2005 with the diesel model following in 2006

l'unico difetto grave che vedo è il passaruota posteriore veramente minuscolo... (mettici anche i 20" ma quel passaruota resta)

Molto bella e aggressiva davvero, però ci vedo un chè di BMW nella fiancata e nel posteriore, mi ricorda molto la serie 5.

Comunque nel comunicato alla fine non dicono nulla oltre a qualche dato riguardo il nuovo turbodiesel. Avrà la trazione posteriore vero?

Bella, mi piace molto più delle equivakenti europee. Ma scusa alura, il 6 cilindri è un V6, essenziale per fare una macchina sicura, IMHO, e infatti abche MB sta convertendo i suoi diesel.

Tra l'altro l'iniezione diretta stechiometrica dell'Alfa evidentemente non era una cazzata, a questo punto.

Lexus will give its BMW 3 Series-fighting IS model new sheetmetal and an all-new drivetrain for 2006. Lexus rolled out the second-generation sedan at the Geneva motor show, revealing details of a non-U.S.-market 2.2-liter diesel powerplant, but keeping information on the U.S.-bound 2.5-liter V6 gasoline engine under wraps until the car’s late-March North American debut in New York.

Sources indicate the IS 250’s V6 will produce about 205 hp compared with the current car’s 3.0-liter 215-hp inline six. In New York, Lexus also will announce a 3.5-liter 245-hp V6, but so far there is no indication of a production version of the V8 under the hood of the IS concept LF-C that debuted at last year’s show. IS 250 styling reflects the LF-C concept, although Lexus isn’t likely to offer an IS in the LF-C’s coupe body style.
