Maserati?s controversial MC12 supercar has been denied permission to race in any of this season?s FIA GT Championship rounds.

The V12-engined car was refused the necessary homologation to race in the European-based series by the FIA World Council last week. This means the MC12 will almost certainly not be able to contest the final four rounds of the championship, as planned by Ferrari?s sister marque.

The World Council is believed to have been swayed by the arguments of FIA president Max Mosley and ruled that the Maserati does not fit with the spirit of the FIA GT regulations. The concerns are understood to centre on the aerodynamics, in particular its large body work over hangs at front and rear.

The decision came as a shock, especially after previous moves by the World Council appeared to suggest that the FIA would not stand in the way of a car that many claimed would render the rest of the grid obsolete.

Last year, the FIA?s legislative body rejected a proposal that carbon chassis cars must be made in quantities of at least 100 to be eligible. That meant Maserati has had to build only 25 road going MC12s.

The World Council?s latest decision comes two weeks after Maserati blocked moves to bring together the FIA GT rules with those of the Le Mans GTS class. It said it could not change the MC12 ? which is too long and too wide for Le Mans ? in time for 2005 but could do so for ?06.

Negotiations to bring forward an evolution version of the MC12 are already ongoing. Maserati seems intent on racing the car and could be willing to reach an early compromise.

The intensive MC12 test programme is continuing. The car undertook wet weather testing at Pirelli?s Vizzola Ticino proving ground in northern Italy last week and is due out with Mika Salo and Andrea Bertolini at Mugello in the middle of this month.

No comment was available from Maserati. FIA GT boss Stephane Ratel said: ?I would have been pleased to have the Maserati, but our series will continue to grow without it. I hope and expect to see the car in a different configuration at a later date.?

In the wake of the decision, plans for a Manufacturers? Cup in 2005 ? a first step towards the possible introduction of a World GT Championship in 2006 ? have been shelved. A change in the rule banning direct factory teams in the FIA GT's was believed not to have been discussed and the regulation still stands

Perchè non era in pieno con lo spirito della categoria.. Sullo scorso numero di Evo c'era un articolo dallo spirito simile in merito e ponevano l'accento sul fatto che la MC12 è tecnicamente molto superiore alla maggior parte delle auto che partecipano al campionato..

x Emi: praticamente, se non ho capito male, contestano il fatto che la MC12 "non incarna lo spirito del mondiale GT". Ovvero l'auto è stata progettata apposta x quello, è molto larga e bassa specie sulle carreggiate ed è favorita rispetto alle rivali prodotte in serie, come la Lister Storm o la Panoz delle quali son pieni i parcheggi degli ipermercati...

Homer spiegami il discorso wrc sapevo che servivano un sacco di esemplari prodotti per famiglia ma sono tutti modelli di larga diffusione chi  ha avuto la dilazione??

La dilazione più famosa è quella delle corolla WRC.....
non esiste un modello turbo 4x4 in produzione, ma pescando dalla celica e dalla gamma erano riuscit a farla correre....

Poi ford (che non ha una 4x4 in vendita

Il regolamento wrc permette la modifica Ta/Tp a 4wd.
Con Homer parlavamo di quantità minime di famiglia (non vorrei dir scemenze 25000unità/anno) prodotte.
Se per quello anche la 206/307 non esistono 4wd mancouna xsaretta.

Sia la 206 che la 307 son state omologate moooolto prima che fossero prodotti i 25000 esemplari richiesti...e se non ricordo male anche in altri casi c'eran state deroghe di questo tipo
