ricordo di aver letto, non più di un anno fa, di una caterham con un motore v8 costruito partendo da due motori quadricilindrici 1000 cc motociclistici..... ne abbiamo anche parlato sul pistone, ma non ricordo bene...
Strano perchè quello è il motore della Radical SR8  con un V8 costituito da 2 motori Suzuki Hayabusa 1.3 assemblati insieme (2,6 litrii per 350CV mi pare) |

1. Always start the engine with a laptop connected to the ECU so that all engine parameters can be monitored during warm-up.
2. Check oil is visible in oil tank (aluminium casting between engine and gearbox). Check water level, turn on electric water pump (if fitted) to check that the system is free of air (2nd switch from right, next to ignition switch). Actual oil level does not matter at this point, because an amount of oil has drained back into the engine ? this returns to the tank when the engine is started.
3. Crank engine to get oil pressure with ignition coils disconnected.
4. Connect coils and turn ignition on. Start engine with no throttle, let engine idle at approximately 2,000-3,000rpm. Check oil pressure is at 60psi minimum.
5. When engine water temperature reaches 50°C, rev engine several times to over 6,000rpm and turn off.
6. Immediately check oil level, it must be 250mm ± 10mm from the top of the filler neck.

Restarting Procedure
1. Ideally, the engine is started 45 minutes prior to going on track. Turn off when the water temp. reaches 85°C and allow heat to soak into the engine. Restart 10 minutes before going on track and get the temperature to 75°C.
2. The electric water pump is only used in the pits (if fitted). On track it is not necessary. Use electric pump when the engine has stopped, to prevent engine from heat-soaking whilst stationary. If no electric water pump is fitted, the engine must not be allowed to overheat whilst stationary.
3. The oil level should be checked every hour of running and it should be topped up to the level indicated above.
Running the Engine
Do not run the engine under load if:-
a) oil temperature is below 60°C
b) oil temperature is above 120°C
c) water temperature is below 60°C
d) water temperature is above 100°C
e) oil pressure when up to temperature at 4,000rpm is under 50psi.
The oil pressure when the engine is started from cold should run at 90psi at 4,000rpm. When up to temperature the oil pressure should read 60psi at 4,000rpm.
Maximum engine revs:- 10,500rpm
If over-revved from 10.500rpm ? 12,000rpm for more than 2 seconds per hour, in any 1 hour of operation the engine will require stripping for inspection and repair, at the customers cost, prior to any further running. (Any over-rev will be recorded on data logger, if fitted or ECU histogram.)
If revved to over 12,000rpm for any length of time, the engine will require stripping for inspection and repair, at the customers cost, prior to any further running. (The yellow button on the Radical dash will recall the maximum revs recorded.)
The rev limiter is set to 10,500rpm. Persistent use of the rev limiter will damage the engine.
It is important to log the number of hours the engine is run. The engine should run for no more than 30 racing hours before being returned to the factory for an inspection / service.
The engine oil and filter should be changed every six (6) hours of running.
Do not attempt to adjust slow running speed, or any other engine parameter without a laptop connected to the ECU running the customer version of MBE?s software (available from Powertec). |

Ecco qui la R500  The next move in this game of tit for tat had to be the magic 500 bhp per tonne. Roll out the Caterham Superlight R500. First shown at the London Motor Show, the car weighs in at 460 kg. To achieve the magic 500 figure, a 230bhp engine was required. Fair enough, but a light engine producing that power? Caterham got together with Minster Race engines and nutured the incredible 230 bhp out of a Rover K series. It's a long way removed from the engines slugging a thousand reps up the M1 in their Rover 25's.
