Fiat-Chrysler Reportedly Close To Sealing A Technology Deal With Google

Alphabet -the parent company of Google- is reportedly in the final stages of securing a deal for a technology partnership with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Bloomberg cites sources familiar with the matter, reporting that the deal could be announced even today.

Google has been discussing with various manufacturers the possibility of deploying their autonomous driving technology in their cars for quite some time now, with the same sources saying that Sergio Marchionne to be directly involved in talks with the technology giant.

FCA’s boss said earlier that he hopes to have an arrangement with a technology company announced in the year. If the two companies agree to work together, the new coalition could mean that FCA is going to let Google develop and own the rights to the autonomous-driving software and data with them adding all the rest to create a fully autonomous vehicle.

GM talked to Google in the past about them developing together a self-driving car but they didn’t close a deal because of disagreements over ownership of the technology and data.
